It’s been over 60 years the double helical structure of the DNA has been discovered by Watson and Crick.

The European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) and  American Society of Human genetics (ASHG) commemorate this discovery every year on the 25th of April with various events, including an essay contest. This year Georgia joined this event for the first time. Georgian Society of Medical Genetics and Epigenetics and TSMU Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics invited students of Medicine and Biology from authorized universities in Georgia to participate in the essay contest.

The topic of the essay is related to Human Genome Project and its positive and negative effects in medicine and public life. Winners of the contest will be announced on April 27, 2015. A workshop: “Your Own DNA as a Gift” will take place during the event.
