Molecular Genetic Testing in Clinical Practice
The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics of TSMU, at the Human Genome Research Center, is implementing a Continuous Medical Education (CME) course:
Molecular Genetic Testing in Clinical Practice.
The course is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and is assigned 15 credit points.
What is the aim of the course?
To raise awareness about the importance of genetic testing in clinical practice and to develop skills in applying molecular-genetic diagnostic methods.
Which methods will be covered?
Participants will learn:
DNA extraction
Quantitative analysis of DNA
PCR-based diagnostic methods, including genotyping, detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and gene expression analysis
Molecular cytogenetics research methods
What is the format and duration of the course?
The course lasts 5 days (15 hours) and is primarily laboratory-based.
A standard session includes:
1-hour lecture
2-hour laboratory session, during which participants (under instructor supervision) will independently perform the laboratory activities covered in the course.
Who can participate?
Anyone holding a diploma in medicine or related specialties.
All participants will receive a certificate, but CME credit points (Category I, 15 points) will be awarded only to licensed physicians holding a certificate in laboratory medicine or medical genetics.
Where will the course be held and what is the laboratory’s technical base?
The laboratory is equipped with modern instruments, including:
Real-Time PCR System QuantStudio™3 (ThermoFisher Scientific, USA)
Qubit 3 Fluorometer (ThermoFisher Scientific, USA)
The course will take place at the TSMU Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics, Human Genome Research Center.
Number of participants
Maximum 4 participants.
Course fee
500 GEL.
